DRYING PRINCIPLE

Certain sludges containing toxic materials cannot be disposed of by landfill method and have to be incinerated. Because the cost of incineration is normally very much higher than other disposal methods, reducing its weight and volume will derive significant cost savings. After going through the preliminary desiccation processes, such as filter or belt presses, the industrial sludge becomes filter cake with a chunky consistency and a water content of about 60-80%. With our microwave sludge dryer, this water content will be further reduced, resulting in smaller volume and lighter weight, thereby deriving significant cost savings in transportation and disposal. The microwave drying principle operates by penetrating into the filter cake and producing a volume heating effect in it. Water vapour evaporated from the filter cake is condensed and removed from the circulating air system. The dried-air is then re-circulated into the microwave system, in a closed loop cycle that virtually eliminates emissions.

  • Energy Efficient - Microwave penetrates into sludge and cause drying to take place throughout the whole volume of sludge rapidly. It saves significant amount of processing time and energy. Many convectional sludge dryers in the market use traditional heating methods such as steam, electrical coils, and diesel or LPG burners. These methods are usually poor in efficiency and more than 65% of energy is lost into the surroundings.
  • Instantaneous Response - Microwave Sludge Dryer can be instantly turned on and off without warm-up or cool-down time required.
  • Economical - Less Labour Cost. It requires only one man to operate.
  • Short Payback Period – depending on the disposal cost of sludge, the payback period of capital investment is usually short, ranges from a few months to less than 2 years.
  • Easy Operation and Maintenance - The operation of the Microwave Dryer is simple and the only maintenance required is the replacement of magnetron tubes. Typical operating life of these tubes is above 5,000 hours.
  • User and Environmentally Friendly - no exhaust emission, no burning of fossil fuel, low noise level, cooler and more comfortable working environment.
  • Safe Operation - Comply with international microwave leakage standard - 10mW/cm2, as measured at a distance of 5cm from the surface of the dryer during normal operation. Fully equipped with safety interlock switches that shuts off the microwave power instantaneously in the event of improper operation.
